The House of the Dragon sneaked Otto Hightower in its final episode, briefly showing him captured in an unknown location. He appears to be in a jail cell with a disheveled appearance.
In episode 2, Aegon initially dismissed Hightower as Hand of the King, leading to a quick departure from King’s Landing. He headed to Old Town, where the rest of his family resides, and that’s the last we see of the character.
Moreover, Hightower’s surprise appearance in a prison cell hinted at Larys Strong’s possible involvement as he developed a one-sided rivalry throughout the season.

Hightower poses the biggest threat to Strong’s control in the Red Keep, which could have led him to imprison the knight.
Another possibility is that House Beesbury or their allies plotted the kidnapping as they prepared to wage war on the Hightowers during the season.
However, the writers haven’t revealed who actually captured Otto Hightower yet, as the finale ended with a cliffhanger, fueling more speculations about the plot.
The series has added new twists since Otto Hightower was never captured in the books!
Throughout the second season, Hightower was missing, as he didn’t even respond to his daughter Alicent’s letters.
According to the Fire & Blood book, after his excuse from Aegon, Hightower attempts to bring Triarchy into the war and sets in motion the Battle of the Gullet.
However, Rhaenyra and the blacks take over King’s Landing, cutting his fate short and making Hightower the first to be beheaded as a traitor, just as he had predicted.

Further, the season two finale indicated that the capture of King’s Landing could happen sooner rather than later.
But House of the Dragon has deviated from the plot, so the next season could bring a new addition to the story, and many are hopeful of Hightower getting more screen time.
This opens up new plot opportunities for Hightower to be freed by his grandson, Daeron Targaryen, as the final episode ends with his dragon carrying him through the skies accompanied by marching soldiers.
