Born as a daughter to Ally Sheedy and her ex-husband David Lansbury, Rebecca transitioned to a man and changed his name to Beckett Lansbury. While some parents may not be supportive of this, actress Ally Sheedy supported her child’s decision in every way possible.
In a 2017 episode of the podcast ‘Boom! Lawyered,’ the mother-son duo opened up about the entire transformation journey.
Ally Sheedy revealed that she was unsure about the entire transition procedure at first, as she did not know anything about it, but she eventually came on board later.
Furthermore, in 2022, while speaking to People Magazine, Ally said, “I want him to be able to do what he wants to do with his life, have the freedom to make his own choices, and surround himself with a loving, supportive community.”
Ally Sheedy revealed that the transition journey of her son, Beckett, was very educational for her!
Beckett Lansbury was born a daughter to Ally Sheedy and David Lansbury on March 15, 1994, making him 30 years old as of now.
He attended Bard College for both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, where he would also go on to work for 4 years.
A few years before Beckett started the journey of his transition, Ally Sheedy had disclosed that her daughter was a lesbian in 2010.
He used to identify himself as bisexual when he first came out and began to reflect on gender identity in the years to come.
In June 2020, Ally and Beckett were featured in the Parents magazine podcast, discussing parenting Trans kids. Beckett revealed on the show that he began taking hormones in 2015 to transition from female to male.
Although it was scary in the beginning, Ally did ample research on the process of transitioning to educate herself so that she could be more vocal with her son.
Ally said, “I feel very comfortable talking to anyone whose kid is just beginning the process of transition. Parents need to educate themselves.”
Furthermore, Ally believes that it is very important to ask someone’s pronouns before getting to know them properly.
She also mentioned that her son’s trans journey had been educational for her, and her son doesn’t hide anything from her.
Ally added, “This is a good phase right now. He’s very independent. But I like it when I can help him with something, whether it’s advice or he needs a new mattress!”
