In September 2024, Linkin Park announced its new vocalist during a live performance event. As soon as people learned it was Emily Armstrong, they were outraged, saying she was an alleged Scientologist.
Armstrong, a singer, songwriter, and musician, has been described as “Janis Joplin for the arena rock age” and a “punk-rock version of Robert Plant and Jim Morrison rolled into one.“
She co-founded Dead Sara in 2005, and in September 2024, her professional career took a turn when she joined Linkin Park as a co-lead vocalist.
The news sparked mixed reactions, with fans outraged that she was allegedly a Scientologist.
Emily Armstrong, rumored to be a Scientologist, reportedly supported Danny Masterson at his 2022 trial!
Following the news that Armstrong would be a new co-lead vocalist, fans took to social media to express their reactions.
A Twitter user @chrrybridgers pointed out, “Funny how Linkin Park’s new lead singer Emily Armstrong is a known member of the infamous Scientology cult and showed up to support Danny Masterson at his trial in 2022, where he was accused and later found guilty of two counts of r*pe in 2024 [sic].“
The user also shared a few screenshots, one of which was a photo of her at the Church of Scientology’s 44th Anniversary Gala.
Likewise, another screenshot showed that she had a short-lived fling with Danny, which was more of a casual relationship.

Likewise, another Twitter user, @therealbozz, shared his reaction, writing, “Emily Armstrong is a Scientologist and was there to support Danny Masterson at his court hearing. This is (puking emoji).“
One of the users commented that she seemed fine vocally. He added, “In regards to her being a Scientologist, she was into it 10-12 years ago we don’t know what her stance is now. Regarding Masterson, there’s no evidence other than one comment from a singer. His support letters are public knowledge. We’ll know eventually.“

Likewise, in the Resetera forum, a user stated that the situation seemed very one-sided at the moment.
The user stated that while she attended Danny’s trial as a friend, she didn’t enter the courts. Fans are also questioning whether Emily Armstrong still has a connection to Scientology and how long she’s been “out,” which adds to the controversy.
The user wrote, “Seemingly she was someone “born” into the cult but you’d assume the current members of LP wouldn’t want her around if they knew she still held similar beliefs.“
