House of the Dragon season 2 has taken a new turn as Hugh Hammer turns out to be the bastard son of a Targaryen. One of his parents is Saera Targaryen, the ninth child of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alyssane.
The revelation of the new relationship has undoubtedly complicated the Targaryen family tree, which has confused most fans from the beginning.
The new twist became the major turn of events in the series because the novel Fire and Blood did not have this storyline.
In the novel, Hugh Hammer is a bastard of an unnamed blacksmith with Valyrian blood. He never had any direct link with Targaryen or had a wife.
However, in episode 7 of season 2, Hugh Hammer reveals to his wife, Kat, that his mother was Sara Targaryen, and he did not know his father. He did not reveal the news because he was ashamed of his mother.
Hugh revealed the lineage only after Rhaenyra announced that she wanted to appoint Valyrian and Targaryen bastards for her army, as only they could control the dragons.

Hugh Hammer revealed his parents’ lineage to protect his family after he lost his daughter
None of the Targaryen family trees have Hugh Hammer as a member until today because he was a bastard son of Saera Targaryen and was a secret.
According to Fire and Blood, Hugh is a blacksmith living in Dragonstone. It was later revealed that he had Valyrian blood but no direct connection with Targaryen’s royal family.
However, the saddened scenario of his daughter’s death led Hugh Hammer to reveal his parents. He is the son of Saera Targaryen, a prostitute with silver hair.
He was ashamed of his upbringing, so he never revealed his lineage until it became necessary to protect his family.
Hugh Hammer gained confidence after controlling the second-largest dragon in the kingdom Vermithor, which once was the dragon of the late King Jaehaerys I Targaryen in the latest episode of House of the Dragon.
