As part of the social experiment, the Love is Blind UK couple met each other’s family before taking the next step in their relationship, where Jasmine invited her mom over, but she pounced down on Bobby with extreme questions about his background.
In episode 9 of the series, the show invited Jasmine’s mom, Marisa, for dinner, but she quickly shifted the focus to Bobby’s education, finances, and employment history.
After discovering that Bobby never attended university, she remarked, “It’s sometimes difficult to have a conversation with an uneducated person,” which caused the backlash toward the contestant’s mom.

As the dinner went on, Marisa wanted to learn more about Bobby’s plan to move to the UK if their relationship turned into marriage. She wanted her daughter close to home, a gesture that seemed quite controlling to netizens.
Moreover, Jasmine’s mom wanted the pair to share minute details about their lives with her as she wanted to live as their friend rather than a senior figure in their marriage.
Following such remarks, many commented on Jasmine’s media posts, with one user writing, “Your mother is obsessively controlling and manipulative. Omg, I’m sorry, babygirl!!! You deserve better! And poor Bobby! He’s a great guy.“
Jasmine clarified that the protective nature of her mom on Love is Blind comes from her Filipino upbringing!
Soon after the episode aired, people began piling up hate comments against Jasmine’s mom, creating Reddit threads to express dissatisfaction.
On a Love is Blind discussion thread, a user expressed, “She’s definitely responsible for 95% of Jasmine’s insecurities and childhood trauma. The lady isn’t protective, she’s batshit crazy. Every mom is protective and rightfully so but this crazy lady is wild.“
When things started looking grim for her mom, Jasmine stepped up to speak against the backlash, thanking her mom for raising her the right way.

Jasmine revealed that her father left them when she was 12, and her mom singlehandedly raised the celebrity and her brother while she worked two jobs and went to university.
Likewise, she requested everyone to be kind towards her mom as Marisa only showed her concerns due to her experience with marriage.
Along with Jasmine’s statement, Marisa came forward with an apology post addressed to all the viewers of Love is Blind UK, in which she wrote, “There were words that were said, and the meaning in my head was different. As a mother, I was nervous Jasmine is getting married under the experiment.“
After such a post, many realized that Marisa spoke on behalf of all immigrant parents and understood that her remarks came from a place of love.
