In the recent viral hidden-cam video, Dr. Jay Varma, the official in charge of New York City’s pandemic response, brags about partying with his wife, Dr. Melissa Varma, and several other friends during the pandemic while preaching social distancing.
On Thursday, the conservative podcaster Steven Crowder uploaded the viral video of Dr. Jay K. Varma, the City Hall’s senior public health adviser under Mayor Bill de Blasio from April 2020 to May 2021, where he bragged about his wild parties mid-pandemic.

What’s outraging netizens more is that, in the video, he admits that people would have been “pissed” if they learned about his wild nights at the time.
His exact words were, “I had to be kind of sneaky about it… because I was running the entire COVID response in the city.“
Although Dr. Jay Varma said the video was a compilation of multiple clips, “spliced, diced and taken out of context,” with the video out in the open, he and his wife, Dr. Melissa Varma, have been in the deep waters, facing public outcry online.

In the same video, Dr. Jay Varma admits that he and his wife rented a hotel room in the summer of 2020 and invited friends for a party.
He said, “My wife and I had one with our friends in August of like that first summer. So we rented a hotel… we all took like, you know, molly [MDMA]…“
What’s worse, he boasts that there were over 8 or 10 friends in a room, and everybody had a blast, given that they were all so pent up.
With that, his wife, Dr. Melissa Varma, is also getting mass backlash for her indulgence in her husband’s hypocrisy.

According to US News Health, Dr. Melissa Varma is a pediatrician with over 21 years of experience who practices medicine in multiple hospitals in New York.
Similarly, she attended the University of California San Diego School of Medicine for her medical degree. She has been a General Pediatrician at Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, since March 2022.
Bashing Dr. Jay Varma’s wife, one wrote, “Worse, his allegedly hard-partying wife is a reportedly pediatrician!“
Meanwhile, one Twitter user wrote, “MUST WATCH: Dr. Jay Varma admits that COVID never slowed down his ‘parties’ Classic case of ‘rules for thee and not for me.’“
According to the New York Post, Jay Varma confirmed that he was involved in two private gatherings during the pandemic, all while running the Big Apple’s COVID response.
Similarly, another user commented in the New York Post report on Dr. Jay Varma, “Face it, everyone. We got played. Don’t let it happen again.“
