Australian singer and songwriter Melissa Morrison Higgins, better known as Missy Higgins, shares an unbreakable, almost mother-daughter-like bond with her elder sister, Nicola Higgins.
Born to Christopher Higgins, an English-Australian general practitioner, and Margaret, an Australian childcare center operator, both the sisters are successful in their work lives with the support of their parents.
Nicola, who is 7 years older than Missy, is a great sister, aunt, single mother of two boys, and an excellent professional artist. She left her passion for a while but started doing it again a few years ago.
In 2001, Missy’s sister Nicola entered All for Believing on her behalf in Unearthed, radio station Triple J’s competition for unsigned artists. The song won the competition, and the station added it to its playlist.
The Higgins sisters can’t just stop praising, supporting, and surprising each other!
In every interview and often in social media posts, Missy Higgins and her sister Nicola praise and talk about each other. They also greatly influence and support each other in their careers and personal lives.
While praising her sister, Nicola stated, “Missy’s social awareness started at a young age. She was involved in every charity and cause and always felt the weight of the world on her shoulders.“
For some reason, Nicola had stopped painting for 10/15 years, so Missy indirectly hinted at her passion by gifting her a canvas. After that, Nicola actually restarted painting and moved forward with her career.
Recently, Nicola made a portrait of her sister with a ukelele in the finals of this year’s Archibald Prize, which she posted in June on her Instagram.
After seeing this portrait of her, Missy posted it on her Facebook page, praising it. She stated, “I saw my sister’s portrait of me for the first time today at @agnswmembers. Blown away by her talent omg!“
Now, talking about Missy, she also hadn’t taken a step back when supporting, praising, and doing things for her elder sister Nicola in her career or personal life.
Around 2004, Nicola and Missy fought over a boy because they both liked the same guy, but they sorted things out and forgot about that fight.
After that, during one of Missy’s concerts, Nicola was in the crowd, and Missy said she would perform the song for someone in the audience.
But when she started singing, it was an apology song called The Special Two for her sister Nicola, to which she stated, “I just stood there crying.”
