Four days after the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Thomas Jolly received many enraging comments from devotees of the Christian religion, who felt the performance disgraced the Jesus Christ scene in The Last Supper.

The Last Supper, one of Leonardo da Vinci’s legendary mural paintings, represents Jesus Christ’s last meal with the Twelve Apostles.

Coincidentally, the recent opening performance directed by the French actor and art director Thomas Jolly tarnished the dignity of all Christian believers as it had a similar set-up and final appearance as that of the mural.

The act had the exact depiction, but he used drags from Drag Race France for the Apostles.

This led devout Christian believers like NFL player Harrison Butker and Andrew Tate to say that he mocked the god and is protesting to boycott the Olympics.

Many are even saying that Thomas Jolly is Jewish and his act was satanic, but these are just rumors and unconfirmed news, as the actor never revealed his personal information.

The director, Thomas Jolly, clarified that the performance did not mean to mock any religion or god!

After the drama caused an uproar and made headlines, Thomas Jolly came forward to clarify that he did not take inspiration from The Last Supper.

His words followed, “You will never find in my work a desire to denigrate anyone or anything.” Instead, he clarified it tried to depict a pagan feast linked to the gods of Olympus.

Born on February 1, 1982, in Rouen, France, Thomas Jolly, 42, grew up in a culturally rich family as his grandparents practiced Catechism.

Talking to Le Monde, a French daily afternoon newspaper, Thomas Jolly said, My grandfather gave catechism classes to children in their house, …”

I who did not receive a religious education, I was next door, listening with one ear without really understanding,” he further added.

In addition to that, the news article has featured a childhood picture of Thomas Jolly in a Christmas costume. So, it is very unlikely that Thomas Jolly shares any Jewish roots.

Now, after the controversial act at the Paris Olympics, many directly linked Thomas Jolly and the Jewish religion.

When asked about why netizens thought he was Jewish, many simply put forward stereotypical comments about Jewish people, like a big nose, eye shape, hair, and other physiognomy.

However, we should not put project judgement and speculations entirely based on such features only.

Addressing the chaotic controversy about the Olympic performance, Thomas said, “We wanted to talk about diversity. Diversity means being together. We wanted to include everyone, as simple as that.”
