One of the Beach Boys’ founding members, Mike Love, has been the talk of the town since the band’s latest documentary movie came out.
Despite all the ups and downs and drama with the bandmates, Mike Love is still the official Beach Boys. Moreover, he is on the current band’s touring lineup and even has an exclusive tour license under the band’s name.
Besides the band, Mike Love has released four albums, with 12 Sides of Summer (2019) being the most recent one.

Despite the tumultuous relationship, Mike Love and Brian Wilson reunited in 2012!
Mike Love, 83, was born Michael Edward Love on March 15, 1941, to his parents, Edward Milton Love and Emily Wilson.
Along with his cousins, Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, and friend Al Jardine, they founded the band The Beach Boys.
Mike Love was the lead vocalist and lyricist for the band, while Brian was the band’s songwriter, producer, and bassist.
While their singles were topping the charts, there was bad blood in the band, and the rivalry between Mike and Brian became the band’s dark side.
Later, in the early ’90s, Mike sued Brian for authorship credit, and he won the case, gaining over 35 song credits with a $5 million settlement. In 1998, when Carl Wilson passed away, he got an exclusive tour license under the Beach Boys’ name.
Despite all the drama and controversy, Mike Love and Brian reunited for the band’s 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour in 2012.
However, there were rumors that Brian happened to get fired from the band by Mike Love, as he announced that he would lead the band without Brian, Al Jardine, or David Marks.
Apart from these fallouts and conflicts, Mike released his solo albums Unleash the Love (2017), Reason for the Season (2018), and 12 Sides Of Summer (2019). Back in 1981, he released his solo debut album, Looking Back with Love, under the record label Boardwalk Records.
Now, fast forward to the present, the original members got together once again for their documentary movie.
According to Billboard, the director, Frank Marshall, had gathered the band’s founding members, Mike, Brian, Al, David, and Bruce, in September at Paradise Cove.
Talking about the gathering Mike said, “We did sing songs together, we reminisced about old times. Al played the guitar. Brian was remembering things that happened when we were in high school from 1958 or 1959.”
