Nigerian-American singer and rapper Shaboozey, famous for his 2018 release ‘Start A Riot’, recently revealed that his parents, his father, are a strong reason he got into country music.

He said, “You know, he played me country music growing up and was very much involved in community outdoor stuff and all those things so if anything I feel like I kind of ended up being a lot like him.”

Shaboozey added, “Even trying to get away from that I ended up coming right back to it somehow.”

Furthermore, he has also said that watching his father work hard and take pride in it has taught him that hard work is an essential factor in life.

He has also shared that his father’s music taste astounded him as a child, saying, “You know, not only does he listen to, you know, traditional, like, Nigerian music, but he was playing me people like Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson and showing me all this stuff.”

As of now, Shaboozey hasn’t mentioned his parents’ names. However, he has said that his father is an immigrant from Nigeria and has studied in Texas.

Shaboozey making country music wasn’t even a surprise to his parents!

Shaboozey, known by his real name, Collins Obinna Chibueze, was born to Nigerian parents on May 9, 1995, making him 29 years old as of now. Growing up in Virginia, he was able to listen to a variety of music due to the fact that people are usually outdoors.

Similarly, Shaboozey shared that he stayed in Nigeria for two years and was able to see the lifestyle and agriculture of the people there.

He says that his experience living in Virginia and Nigeria has connected him with country music.

In an interview with Baller Alert, when asked what it felt like to break the news of making country music to his parents, Shaboozey laughed and said, “It was not really no news breaking but they love it man, they love it.”

Moving on, Shaboozey began his music career in 2014 by releasing his first song, Jeff Gordon.

He started gaining recognition after releasing hit songs, ‘Robert Plant’ and ‘Starfoxx,’ in 2017. In 2018, he gained more prominence after releasing ‘Start A Riot’ with Duckworth as a soundtrack for the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

A peak moment of his career came when he collaborated with famous American singer Beyonce on two of her songs, ‘Spaghettii‘ and ‘Sweet Honey Buckiin,’ from the album Cowboy Carter.

Shaboozey’s parents are not surprised by his career in the music industry, but nevertheless, they are still proud of him.
