On July 1, 2024, Vanity Fair released a first look at Joseph Quinn as the Emperor Geta in Ridley Scott’s upcoming sequel, Gladiator II. Interestingly, many didn’t recognize him at the get-go.
Although the Stranger Things actor was previously reported to play Emperor Caracalla, he is officially playing Emperor Geta. Instead, The White Lotus star Fred Hechinger is playing the character of Emperor Caracalla.
With that confusion, many wondered if they misread the previous announcement. However, they did not misread, as all the previous have now added postscripts to their articles.
Further, talking to Men’s Health Magazine, Joseph Quinn revealed that he felt incredibly grateful working with Sir Ridley Scott. He added, “Yes, I play one of the emperors in it, and it was a truly incredible experience. And that’s all I can say.”

Joseph Quinn plays the role of the ruthless, sadistic, and cruel Emperor Geta in Gladiator II
As the major details about Gladiator II are entirely under wraps, not much information about the film is available.
However, it is clear that Joseph Quinn’s role, along with Fred Hechinger, is that of an antagonist opposite Lucius.
Director Ridley Scott told Vanity Fair that “Caracalla and Geta are twins and are definitely damaged goods from birth.”
The twin brothers rule over the greatest Roman Empire with their sadistic and cruel approach.

However, as per director Scott, their leadership becomes the reason for the end of century-long Roman dominance in the ancient world. So, they are basically the ‘brothers who rule a decaying and corrupt Rome.’
While the movie Gladiator II’s synopsis is yet to come, it is supposedly an homage to the Oscar-winning 2000 movie Gladiator.
Given the nature of Joseph Quinn’s villain role in the movie, fans are comparing him to Cersei Lannister. One fan tweeted, “Joseph Quinn done turned into Cersei Lannister.”
Furthermore, with the release of the first looks, fans also noticed how similar Joseph Quinn looked to a young Robert Downey Jr. But, let me remind you, they are not related!
