Famous gardener and landscaper Roger Cook, who is well-known for his appearance in The Old House, passed away at the age of 70 on August 21, 2024, after a long battle with an unknown disease.
While The Old House star passed away peacefully, with his family there to support him, there is very little information available regarding his disease. Many speculate that it might have been Parkinson’s disease; however, there is no confirmation.
His family says that his final years have been very challenging and have given him a tough time. However, as time went by, Roger was able to make peace with it.

In June 2018, Roger Cook announced on social media that he would be making fewer appearances on The Old House as he reduced his role on the show. He shared that the main reason for doing so was to spend more time with his family and for health reasons as well.
He stated, “Some viewers may have noticed that I haven’t been myself over the last season. In fact, I have been dealing with several health issues that have made performing on television more difficult. As a result, I’ve decided to reduce my role on The Old House so I can focus more time on my health and my family.”
As mentioned in the above statement, he shared that he had been feeling unwell, which made it hard for him to appear on the TV show.
While Roger mentioned that it had been hard for him to work, he would still make appearances from time to time so as not to disappoint his viewers. However, by 2020, his condition had reached a critical state, which left him no choice but to quit the show.
Roger’s family and himself would never reveal to the public the name of the disease. However, online discussions have led many to believe that it may have been Parkinson’s disease with some even believing that it may have been cancer.
Nonetheless, Roger Cook was not only an amazing landscaper but a wonderful human as well. His love and passion for gardening were able to connect many different people, and he will be remembered for the way he lived.
