The first episode of Season 2 of the Netflix series Worst Roommate Ever, titled My BFF Tried To Kill Me, shows how Janie Lynn Ridd’s obsession with the son of Rachel led her to misuse her role as a caretaker.
Rachel, then 22, met Janie Lynn Ridd in Utah in 1995. At the time, Rachel, the recently divorced one, was living at her parents’ house and wanted to move out. Then, she found Janie to share a house with her.
She worked as a paramedic for six years until she herniated a disc in her back and could no longer work. Soon after that, Rachel found out she was pregnant.
Rachel gave birth to a boy, Ryder, whose father didn’t stay around, and problems began when Janie tried to take custody of Rachel’s son while Rachel was stuck in bed after major spine surgery.
In the interview, she said, “Janie had 100% control over me because I didn’t have a job, I was pregnant, I had a back injury, and I was in so much pain, I needed her.“
